Be Your Own Valentines!

02/14/2025

Valentine's Day has traditionally been a day to celebrate romantic love, friendship, and admiration. Valentine's Day can be difficult for some people as it can highlight feelings of loneliness, specifically for singles as it can bring up memories of painful breakups, the loss of a partner, or not being where they want to in life in terms of romantic relationships. Celebrating Valentine's Day as a single person is possible and can be an enjoyable experience when we use the day to focus on ourselves. Enjoying Valentine's Day as a single can focus on self-care activities and dedicating time to yourselves. Not sure what to do? We here at Better Living Counseling Center are here to help! Here are some awesome activities to try out when you're single on Valentine's Day!

· Go to a Movie

February is a great time to go to the movies for Valentine's Day as the Oscars are just around the corner! It is also a great opportunity to splurge on some popcorn and sweet treats to have a date with yourself.

· Enjoy a Beauty Treatment

Use the day to spoil yourself with a haircut, blowout, mani-pedi, facial or a massage.

· Get out of Town

If possible, plan a Valentine's Day weekend get away with a friend or family member or even go out on your own!

· Cook a Romantic Dinner for Yourself

Is there something you have been wanting to cook for yourself but haven't found a good enough reason to get into the kitchen? What a better way to celebrate yourself then to cook yourself a fantastic meal?! You can even set the table, light candles and open a good bottle of wine.

· Eat at Your Favorite Restaurant

If you don't feel like cooking, a solo dinner out could be a great experience! Not only can you eat wherever you want, you also don't have to make conversation if you don't want to. Be sure to make a reservation as most restaurants get very busy. One of my favorite things to do solo is go to a local sushi place and sit at the sushi bar and chat with the chef.

· Sign up for a Workout Class

A workout class is a great way to give back to your body and exploring a new type of exercise.

· Bake a Dessert

What could be better than baking an amazing dessert that you don't have to share with anyone?!

· Stay In and Pamper Yourself

Why not make it a day of self-care that will leave you feeling refreshed for the next day. One can have a full pamper day without leaving the house by staying in and taking long bath, putting on a face mask, giving yourself a blowout, and painting your nails.

· Plan a Date with Your Best Friend

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be spent alone when single! It is a great time to get some best friend love.

· Do Something Nice for Someone

Valentine's Day can also be about showing care for someone that isn't necessarily a significant other.

· Give Yourself a Break from Social Media

If we are making V-Day about you, give yourself a break from being worried about what other people are posting online! Seeing happy couples on social media and how they are celebrating the day may take away from how you want to celebrate the day.

· Buy Yourself Flowers

Treating yourself to a beautiful bouquet of flowers is a perfect way to celebrate loving yourself. You can even decide to make your own from an assortment of flowers.

· Splurge on A Nice Piece of Jewelry

If you are able to without breaking the bank, buy yourself that piece of jewelry that you have had your eye on. You're worth it!

· Love Yourself

Regardless about how you choose to spend Valentine's Day, remember to love yourself through self-compassion, action and positive self-talk because you are worthy of love.
